HE IS RUKUS
Rukus—a home grown, lyrical aficionado, took the Houston scene by storm with his popular remix of 2Face Idibia’s international hit — African Queen, and rapid fire, quick witted freestyles. In 2009, his foray into the limelight picked up steam when his tribute to Oscar Grant—“Dear Tatiana” was picked up by Oakland radio stations, and served as a rallying cry against police brutality. Award winning actress, Zendaya, hailed the song as Rukus creatively touched on the effects of brutality while honoring the legacy of Grant; the song would go on to be considered for placement in the movie Fruitvale Station. Soon after, Nigerian super producer, Don Jazzy selected Rukus as a finalist in his international Enigma Beat Competition. As his international momentum grew, Rukus’ lyrical artistry caught the attention of Trybe Records’ CEO. Eldee, who signed him to the label and named him General Manager in 2012. After experiencing success in Nigeria, Rukus set out as an independent artist and returns with a new project focused on giving a voice to the voiceless - one verse at a time.
